    Dimensions- 10” x 10”

Flight Range- 30-40 ft

This rang and its name are based on a traditional 3 winged design by Blue Star Boomerangs already on the market. It has a very predictable flight pattern and suitable for both kids (with parental supervision) and adults. It’s made with Grade A 5 ply Birch which makes it a bit lighter than the others.

The Vortex is best thrown in little to no wind conditions and with lots of spin and very little force. Throw with a little layover (INVERTED TO THE LEFT IT RIGHT HANDED)and 20 degrees or so above the horizon.

      • A perfect rang for the novice and is very accurate and can be used in both no wind to heavier wind (using some form of drag) The flight pattern is fairly consistent and spins slowly and mostly parallel to the ground at a moderate height. Its total elliptical range is shorter than most and is comparable to the ‘Aboriginal’ C.M.B. Try throwing this rang almost vertically with little layover (except in no wind situations) and 45 degrees away from the wind.
    • This is rang is based on a design similar to ones already on the market(although it’s size and dimentions are unique to C.M.B).

    Dimensions- 7” x 14”

Flight Range-100-150 ft

Relatively difficult to throw. However, with enough practice it is very accurate in its return. Be sure to throw more vertically and with lots of spin and forward motion force. Be sure to throw a little more into the wind as well (30-40 degrees). It flies well in light to heaver wind conditions but performs best if thrown in a steady 5-7 mph wind. If thrown properly The Wave should fly on a mostly horizontal plane and moderately high off the ground while spinning very rapidly.
  • Price-$25(shipping not included) This rang is similar in its design and style to others on the market(although its exact dimentions and style are unique to C.M.B).

    Dimensions-2’ x 2’

Weight-10 oz

    Flight Range- 60-90ft.

    • * Made for and by request only.
      • Great for the adult novice but not recommended for kids. Best if thrown 25-30 degrees above the horizon and with a little layover/tilt (10 degrees from vertical) Throw away from wind 30-40 degrees with a moderate to forceful throw and a great deal of spin. The wheel should go out and upward rapidly about 40-60 ft and come back down in the same fashion in a semicircle while spinning rapidly. It will slow down within a few feet of the catch and may hover. Try catching on the bottom where the toggle bolt extends. It will spin in your hand when caught! Great fun this one is and great to learn with too. Make sure to tighten the toggle bolt on top as the wings will loosen over time and the flight won’t be as acurate….try to keep all three wings equal distance from each other as well.

The Pinwheel is based on a traditional design and I have emulated it. However, the exact style, dimentions, etc. are unique to C.M.B.

Flight Range-100-150 ft
This large rang is a lot of fun for the advanced adult thrower but is not recommended for kids. It was modeled after the beautiful Falcon that happens to take residence in the Vermont town of Westmore up in the cliffs of Mt. Pisca . Must be thrown with a great deal of force and spin with a moderate amount of layover/tilt. Throw a little more into the wind (30 degrees or so) on less windy days. The flight pattern is very graceful and slow moving and stays relatively close to the ground in a very elliptical pattern. It tends to arc a bit higher on its return so make sure it is thrown with not too much layover and not too far away from the wind. Take care when attempting to catch as it has a large wing span and could be dangerous if not caught in a horizontal position (make sure to wear gloves and eye protection).

The “Bluey” Hook

Filed under: Advanced Rangs — Jeremy @ 5:18 pm

Weight- 4 oz

    • Flight Range- 150-200 ft

The Bluey Hook was originally designed by a world champion competitor and native of Melbourne Australia named Bluey Williams. It is similar in style, design, etc., but unique to C.M.B. Not a boomerang for novices as it is made to go long distances with a very accurate return if thrown properly.

    • It can be thrown with little wind to a heavier wind (if used with weights or some form of drag) and requires plenty of throwing space (at least 200’ x 200’). Try throwing with slight layover/tilt and only 30-40 degrees to the right of the wind. Use a lot of force and spin to create maximum rotation while in flight. For the advanced thrower who wishes for greater distance, try taping coins on both tips and elbow. If you find it circles but has a tendency to lay down early, tape 1 coin to the elbow on the flat side.

Moby Dick

    Dimensions – 6.5” x 13”

Flight Range – 60-100ft

    Price - $25 ( not including shipping)
Made for right handed throwers only

The design of this Rang was inspired by Melville’s book and is one the more difficult to throw and achieve an accurate return ( I can attest to this still!) *Not suitable for the novice. Throw Moby with a great deal of spin and snap of the wrist as you throw with a light to moderate amount of force 45 degrees away from the wind. Best if thrown in 5-10 mph wind that is not shifting! The flight pattern of Moby starts and stays moderately low to the ground, (ideally) spins very rapidly and may hover towards the end of its flight (as if being chased no doubt!).

If you find that Moby tends to not come back all the way, try bending both wing tips up (dihedral lift) as well as twisting the dingle arm clockwise ( negative angle of attack) and the lifter arm clockwise (positive angle of attack). This should allow it to come back with greater precision. Make sure to throw it at least 45 degrees out of the wind when changing angle of attack too.

The flight pattern and rate of difficulty are comparable to the ‘Crescent’ Boomerang. This Sperm Whale takes a great deal of patience and requires a good sense of humor and sensitivity to the spirit of the elusive and complex Moby Dick!

Large Crescent

Filed under: Large Rangs — Jeremy @ 5:14 pm

Price- $50

Made for right handed throwers only

    Dimensions- 13” x 21”

Weight-6 oz

    Flight Range- 150-200 ft

One of the larger rangs it will require an advanced thrower who is an adult. Not suitable for kids. Be sure to have enough throwing space (at least 200’ x 200’ ) and be aware that it will be more unpredictable in heavier winds and will require ‘drag’ to help stabilize. Try taping a coin to the elbow for a more elliptical flight as this is a heavier rang and has the tendency to lie down early if not thrown with enough force. Be sure to give it plenty of snap and follow through in your throw as the arc is large and requires more wrist and arm movement when throwing. Flight tends to be fairly high from the ground and graceful ( not too rapid in its spin) and a nice finishing hover.

“Aboriginal” Style

Flight range- 40-60ft

This boomerangs design and angle cut(120 degrees) is similar (not exact) to the Australian Aboriginals. I use aboriginal symbols on the front of the rang as well( left to right; fire/tree, person, emu tracks, shelter, river, kangaroo tracks, kangaroo or joey or wallabee, spear, shield, journey, water hole, goanna/snake tracks) that have been wood burned.

Its flight pattern tends to start low and quickly gain height, while hovering and quickly voloplaining.

It’s flight pattern is different than others and fun to watch in flight as it is less predictable and has a lot of variation during the coarse of its flight. Try throwing with less layover than most and less into the wind with a great deal of spin and a moderate amount of force. Best if thrown with a steady breeze of 5 mph or less.

If you find that the rang flies high and comes back at a steep angle, try skewing or twisting the dingle arm with positive AOA (angle of attack) by twisting the trailing edge (flatter beveled side) counter-clockwise. This should increase the eliptical flight more.
